This procedure will take approximately five weeks. New legislation means that a large number of international employees, PhD candidates or guests at VU University Amsterdam are not required to obtain a work permit. Whether you need a work permit depends on your nationality and the nature of the work you will be carrying out. Persons who originate from the EU do not need a work permit, nor do highly skilled migrants or guests who fall within the guidelines of Directive 2005/71/EC. • You can contact the designated contact person at your faculty at VU University Amsterdam for more information. • The government body in the Netherlands that issues the work permit is called the UWV Werkbedrijf. Where possible, the application will be made by the International Office on behalf of VU University Amsterdam. The International Office will keep you informed about the progress of your application. Depending on your nationality, the purpose and duration of your stay, you may require an entry visa, residence permit and/or work permit. Without the correct documents you will not be allowed to reside in the Netherlands or carry out your research. These rules are strictly followed by the Dutch immigration authorities (IND). The International Office can provide you with all the necessary information and will help you through the procedure. E-mail immigration@vu.nl Tel. +31 (0)20 59 82867 19 Pagina 18
